The Botswana Export Development & Investment Authority (BEDIA) and The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) jointly organized Seminar on 'Economy of Botswana and the Opportunities for Indian Businessmen' todayat Surana Udyog Auditorium, Federation House, Red Hills, Hyderabad.Ms. Ontiretse Scitta Monagen, RegionalDirector,BEDIA was the Chief Guest for the occasion. Ms. Ontiretse Scitta Monagen said in his speech that the mining country Botswana is offering business opportunities in mining and energy, resource based industry and financial services to the Indian businessmen’s and companies. In particularly Botswana welcoming investments in diamond, coal, gold, uranium, copper nickel, methane gas in mining and energy; tourism, health, education, ICT and Financial services sectors. Botswana is a friendly environmental country to the Indian people and it’s also a tax regime country. The Botswana Export Development & Investment Authority (BEDIA) assists to the Indian businessmen in investment promotion, export development, policy advocacy, promote joint ventures and one stop solutions for the investors. Particularly our one stop solution scheme will support to the businessmen in land, telephone, industrial license, water, power supply and domestic atmosphere.
Mr. Shekhar Agarwal said in his welcome address that the Indian community has played a significant role in the economic growth of Botswana. The Government of Botswana has been recruiting Indian experts for various Government Departments.As per the latest estimates, there are about 10,000 people of Indian origin, out of which 3,000 have become Botswana nationals and the remaining 7,000 are still holding Indian passports.
Mr. Srinivas Ayyadevara said that Botswana seeks Indian investments in the areas of agriculture and dairy; industry – especially in diamonds and small & medium industries as well as labour oriented industries; investment in mining coal, diamond, gold; setting up an ICT park and assistance in telecommunication technology. Botswana is rich in minerals and offers great potential for investment in these areas.
